Common questions

Helpful information about Jen Parr Mutolo’s acupuncture practice

What will my first appointment be like?

Your first appointment is going to be an hour and a half long. Jen will spend time doing an intake that will help identify your personal health goals. The intake includes questions like: how many hours do you sleep? What is your digestion like? Have you had any recent surgeries or illnesses? And also includes: What is the most important thing for you to take care of today (in regards to health)? Your first appointment also includes resting and relaxing with needles in – so please dress in comfortable clothes and allow for plenty of time to enjoy the experience.

What conditions can acupuncture treat effectively?

Jen has seen acupuncture treat a wide range of health issues. Some of of the most common items she treats include; joint pain, headaches, insomnia, fatigue, stress, anxiety, allergies, menstrual irregularities, digestive problems, cold/flu and addictions. Acupuncture works to treat not only the symptoms of disease but also the root patterns that can cause disease. Therefore, Jen encourages using acupuncture as a means to prevent disease and optimize your physical, mental and spiritual well being.

Does Jen accept my health insurance?

If you know that your insurance company does cover acupuncture, then Jen will be sure to provide you with paperwork for reimbursement. She requires payment for services at each acupuncture session. She accepts cash, check and credit cards for each of your acupuncture sessions.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a safe form of medicine which uses small, sterile needles to assist your body in the natural healing process and resolve imbalances (seen as indigestion, fatigue, pain and more). Acupuncture is based on the fact that “qi” also called “life energy,” needs to move freely throughout the human body to prevent illness and diseases and stop pain. More information on acupuncture can be found here.

How much does an acupuncture session cost? And what does it include?

Each acupuncture session with Jen costs $55.00 and often include: moxibustion, tuina / massage or cupping. Follow-up acupuncture sessions are the same price and also include personalized nutrition information and herbal consultations with herbal formulas (sold separately) specifically designed for each client. Scholarships to assist payments are available for some clients and depend on medical condition, household income and time of need. Please feel free to ask about scholarship availability at any session with Jen.

How many treatments will I need?

This is different for each client and will depend on your personal health goals. Jen will spend time at each session assessing how you are doing. Generally she likes to meet with each client weekly in the beginning and as your wellness is improving you can move to a monthly schedule or as needed.
